Sedan and coupé bodystyles were offered as before, with – due to demand – a five-door hatchback variant added. Inline-four engines displacing 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 liters were offered, with the 2.0-liter also available with a turbo and 145 PS (107 kW). In September 1983 a 2.0-liter diesel was added to the lineup.
Under the hood, the Mazda 2 came fitted with a choice of petrol and diesel engines depending on the market. In Japan, it was fitted with a 1.3-liter (ZJ-VE) inline-4 petrol engine as standard, and a 1.5-liter (ZY-VE) inline-4 petrol as an option. These engines were paired with a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. 2007 – 2013 k2dwG.
