If you have an older tariff without a safety buffer we cap the amount you're charged for data usage abroad at £40 per month. So no matter how much data you use in any given month while you're abroad, you’ll never be charged more than £40. You can also choose to remove your safety buffer altogether in which case you'll be able to spend more.
In November I went to Paris with my android and used data with no problem. I'm in Italy right now, with my iPhone, and I can't use the data. Both the data and the roaming is turned on. I've tried my card on my sisters phone (she's here with me) and it worked fine. I've checked with my carrier and everything's fine with my card and data plan.
