Burn Test – light it with a match and smell the smoke. If it smells like candle wax – that indicates polyethylene. UHMW does not drip as readily as HDPE but it will drip. Oven Test – place it in an aluminum dish in a 300 degree oven. Regular HDPE will slump or melt but UHMW will not change size or shape. However, it could warp or distort It filters ultraviolet (UV) light at wavelengths below about 300 nm (similar to ordinary window glass). Some manufacturers add coatings or additives to PMMA to improve absorption in the 300–400 nm range. PMMA passes infrared light of up to 2,800 nm and blocks IR of longer wavelengths up to 25,000 nm.
Photo: How low-E glass works by treating light and heat in different ways. On hot summer days, light can pass through, but the heat from the Sun will reflect back out again. On cold winter nights, more of the heat generated inside your home will stay there instead of leaking out through your windows.
Paint layer-by-layer on each sheet of acrylic, stacking them as you go. Once the painting is complete, glue the acrylic sheets together. Vinyl stickers adhere very well to acrylic paint. This can be used to make creative signage or art. If you purchased masked acrylic, try carefully cutting designs from the masking.
With impeccable clarity, excellent weatherability, and high light transmission, this plastic has no additives to block the transmission of UV light. While UV filtering acrylic blocks up to 98% of UV rays, UV transmitting acrylic allows up to 92% UV ray transmission. Applications of UV Transmitting Acrylic
Green laser protective, CE Certified, acrylic was tested. It blocked 100% on my IR meter (950 nm) with 30% VIS transparency (550nm). I then tested 16 colored standard acrylic sheets sold on Amazon (Red, blue, green, light green, yellow, etc.). The typical IR blocking was 4-5% with 95% of the IR energy of straight line radiation passing through.
